Half the population are bullied ... most only realise it when they read this
Welcome to the home page of Bully OnLine, web site of the UK National
Workplace Bullying Advice Line, where Tim Field shares his unique insight
into workplace bullying, the common denominator of harassment,
discrimination, prejudice, abuse, conflict, and violence, giving you the
knowledge to identify, understand and tackle a common cause of stress,
anxiety, waste, inefficiency, dysfunction, ill health, trauma, cost, and
litigation. Bully OnLine also contains pages on workplace violence, domestic
abuse, PTSD, suicide, child bullying, bullying in schools, stalking, and more.

Quote of the month
March 2000
"I just want the bullying to stop. That is all I ever wanted. I used to love
going to school. Now I hate it."

3. Teasing and Bullying
EEC is working to find ways to help teachers and administrators address
teasing and bullying behaviors effectively. Teachers need to learn how to
deal with bullies who, at the very least, disrupt the learning process. Quit
it!, EEC's new guide to pro-social teaching strategies, is a crucial resource
for every teacher and administrator.EEC's Teasing and Bullying Project and
its Quit it! guide for teachers have been featured in popular and teacher
education magazines and journals. Here's a sample:

"On Purpose: Addressing Teasing and Bullying in Early Childhood." Young
Children (National Association for the Education of Young Children), March
1999.

"Fostering Friendships, Curbing Bullying." Educational Leadership
(Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), May 1999.
"Sticks and Stones: Is Your Child Being Bothered by a Bully?" Parent Guide,
May 1999.

"It's Not Child's Play: Teasing and Bullying Can Cause More then a Few
Tears." Children and Families (National Head Start Association), October
1999.

Look for upcoming article in Equity and Excellence in Education's special
issue on gender equity (April 2000).

4. The Work of Ron Brill on Emotional Honesty
Many schools experiencing problems of student harassment, aggression and humiliation of peers focus primarily on strategies for dealing with the bully rather than bully-proofing potential and actual victims with "primary prevention," school-based emotional health education programs. Those of you involved with SEL programs are invited to review this issue in the current (summer/fall) newsletter of the Center for School Mental Health Assistance.

To receive a copy, email: csmha My article in the newsletter is also available to download on the "articles" page of the website,
